Bax was born of wealthy parents in Streatham, London, on 8 November 1883. Their move to Ivybank in Streatham in 1893 coincided with his father beginning to take him to August Manns' Crystal Palace concerts. By 1896 Bax had begun to compose profusely. This compulsion burnt on a high flame until the mid-1930s. |
